Since 2011 I have been directing theatre and performance works, specialising in theatre for young audiences (TYA), and collaborations with young people.
My directing work is characterised by collaborative devising and design processes, exploration of contemporary forms, an intimate or immersive engagement of audiences and a rigorous attention to detail. Most recently, I have directed works of contemporary TYA which have played in Denmark, Italy, China and Korea.
Since 2006 I have worked as a producer, project manager, and Production Manager on a broad range of arts projects and programs.
From 2006-2014, and from 2015 to present, I have worked respectively as the Associate Artistic Director and Artistic Director of Imaginary Theatre. This role has seen me produce new performance works, community projects, and international tours.
From 2010-2013, then again from 2016-2019 I worked as a Project Officer for the State Library of Queensland's 'Children and Young People's Program' producing a series of large scale engagement programs and managing internal staff and external stakeholders.
I bring to my producing work a strategic approach and attention to detail. I see producing as a creative practice, and utilise my skills as a facilitator and collaborator to build positive and effective partnerships that lead to quality processes and outcomes.
An important part of my practice is collaborating with communities to create arts experiences that enrich the lives of participants and audiences, inspiring new ways of thinking, imagining, and being together.
Most commonly I work in intensive residencies in primary education contexts across multiple art-forms, facilitating processes designed to stimulate creative thinking, problem solving, and innovation, and build resilience, empathy, and collaboration.
I also work with young people and adults on creative technology programs, specifically in the areas of sound design, video design, DJ & VJ.
I compose music, mostly to soundtrack performance or installation art.
My compositions are often atmospheric and ephemeral. I use acoustic and electronic instruments, field recordings, and sampling to create pastiche music that is richly textured.
I enjoy working collaboratively as part of a creative team where I can utilise my skills as a performance and installation maker to compose music with a dramaturgical approach, where I can craft, support and creative magical moments for audiences.
I am a Sound Designer with 12 years experience working on performance & installation works. Across all my sound design work, my background as a performance maker informs a dramaturgical approach, and my specialist practice creating art for children informs an audience-centric approach.
My practice includes technical systems design, sound engineering, and automation programming. I am an advanced programmer of QLAB software, a system I have used to create complex surround sound, multi-channel, and integrated designs.
Most recently, I have been specialising in Sound and Systems Design for audio immersive theatre.
Since 2008 I have worked as a video designer and VJ on a variety of performance, installation, and workshop projects. I am competent in video capture, editing, and post. I have basic skills in animation.
I am an advanced programmer on QLAB software, which I have utilised to realise a number of complex video designs utilising multiple projectors.
A specialist area of practice is engaging children and young people in video skills development workshops.
As a specialist in working at the intersection of childhood, creativity, and community I am able to act as a consultant on any activity where expertise on child and family engagement is required, including programming, policy, and evaluation.
In my role as Artistic Director of Imaginary Theatre, I have worked extensively in partnerships with local government, education, non-profit, commercial sectors. I bring to my consultancy work creative thinking, collaborative process, and rigorous attention to detail.
Please get in touch if you're interested in engaging me as a consultant with your project or organisation.
I love & collect music.
I DJ mostly as a hobby, but occasionally get asked to play music for people at festivals, events and parties. I often DJ at performing arts events where I am attending or presenting my performance work.
I have DJ'ed at Brisbane Festival, Harvest Festival, HiSeoul Festival, the Performing Arts Market Seoul, the Australian Performing Arts Market and the ASSITEJ World Congress, amongst other0s.
I play gigs where I can spin music that I like and that I know will make other people happy. If you're looking for someone with excellent taste in music to make a crowd vibe I'm your guy. No requests.
